Top Grilling Tips for Summer

Summer is finally here! Now that the weather is warmer, it’s time to fire up those grills and get cooking. Take a peek at our top tips for grilling this summer so you can make the best meals.

Clean Your Grill

You never want to start cooking on a dirty grill with flakes of old food. Even if you don’t think it’ll affect the taste, having an old piece of food stick to your meat isn’t the yummiest vision. Scrape down your grill and get it nice and hot inside to burn off the rest of the residue!

Stop Flipping Your Food

Many people want to make sure their food is cooked all the way through, so they keep moving their meat. Stop! Every time you flip your food or move it around you lose precious juices that add to the moistness and flavor of the dish. Just flip it once so both sides have been given heat. This also means you shouldn’t flatten or squeeze your meat, as that loses the moisture as well.

Don’t Put Cold Food On

Allow your food to sit out at room temperature for at least 30 minutes. This will help it cook more evenly – but if you’re looking just to sear something like tuna, chilled is the way to go!

Wait to Eat

Allow your food to sit for 15 minutes so the juices can redistribute. Don’t touch the food or move it around during that time. This is an important key to getting juicy results.

Get It Hot

Preheat your grill for at least 20 minutes before cooking. Your grill should be 400-450°F for high, 350-400°F for medium-high, 300-350°F for medium and 250-300°F for low heat. At the right heat, a grill keeps the juices in and prevents the meat from sticking!

Keep Your Lid Down

According to Weber, “Here are 4 important reasons why the lid should be closed as much as possible.

  1. It keeps the grates hot enough to sear the food.
  2. It speeds up the cooking time and prevents the food from drying out.
  3. It traps the smokiness that develops when fat and juices vaporize in the grill.
  4. It prevents flare-ups by limiting oxygen.”

We hope these top tips allow you to BBQ at your best! Enjoy the weather everyone and have fun with your family and friends this season.
