Position Summary:

At Peoples Bank, we are passionate about providing an exceptional customer experience.  Often referred to as the “face” of the bank, tellers have a pivotal role.  They see the most customers on a daily basis, and have the unique opportunity to make a lasting good impression based on their excellent customer service skills in processing transactions.  In addition, tellers listen for ways to help customers by recommending additional banking services or products and referring customers to the department that can fulfill the customer’s needs.  This position will include all phases of teller work; cashing checks, taking deposits, processing loan payments and night deposits, filling currency orders, issuing Cashier’s Checks and Money Orders and other services as required.  
 

Daily Tasks

  • Process all transactions accurately, handling each efficiently and with appropriate discretion
  • Receive checks and cash for deposits;  cashes checks and processes withdrawals;  verifies dollar amounts; checks for proper endorsement, issues receipts
  • Process all types of loan payments
  • Issue Cashier’s Checks, Money Orders and Travelers Checks; processes Stop Payments
  • Service customers with account printouts, accept check orders, process credit card transactions, accept real estate tax payments, sell tickets as needed for local events, help customers change their debit card PIN number
  • Process Night Deposits; prepare  coin and currency orders; count and package currency; use coin counter
  • Open and close cash drawer daily, ensuring proper handling of cash and negotiables, and balancing according to Teller Policy, reporting any discrepancies to the Head Teller – accountable for proof errors and out of policy decisions
  • Maintain policy for cash drawer limits, balancing under the limit each day
  • Balance ATM, balance the vault, order currency or other duties as requested by manager
  • Maintain dual control as outlined by policy (getting into vault, processing night deposits, balancing ATM, etc.)
  • Help customers in lobby and drive up, answer phone and fill in at other locations/branches as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Customer Service & Sales

  • Project a friendly, positive image to customers and coworkers, greeting customers by name and with a smile.
  • Proactively listen for opportunities to help customers by suggesting bank products and services and referring them to the Personal Bankers, Loan Department or Investment Department  as needed
  • Participate in special promotions of bank services, helping the bank reach its goals
  • Promote and thoroughly explain deposit accounts and enhancements such as debit cards, online banking, BillPay, mobile banking, mobile alerts and other sevices directly related to deposit products
  • Help customers solve problems, thereby deepening relationships and retaining customers

 

Knowledge

  • Teller experience preferred.
  • Must have an excellent understanding of core system, Navigator
  • Must learn teller software, enter all transactions, understand the entry journal and balancing procedures
  • Must assist customers in a variety of ways, promoting bank products and services.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the services other departments offer so you can refer customers.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of customers’ information

Salary Range:

  • $15 - 17 per hour based on experience
