Mortgage Loan Process

What Happens When You Apply for a Mortgage Loan?

Buying a home is exciting, and we’ll guide you every step of the way. Here’s what to expect when you choose Peoples Bank as your lender:

Step 1.

Get Pre-Approved

Apply online and then meet with a Peoples Bank Mortgage Lender.  We’ll start with a friendly chat about your goals, budget, and what kind of home you’re dreaming of. Together, we’ll review your income, credit, and down payment options to find the best loan for you.

Step 2.

Share Documents

If you haven’t already applied online, our lender will help you complete the mortgage application and collect the basic documents we need, like pay stubs and bank statements. Don’t worry — we’ll make it as easy as possible.

Step 3.

We Handle the Details

Behind the scenes, our mortgage team verifies your information, orders an appraisal, and prepares everything for the next step. This is where the heavy lifting happens.

Step 4:

Underwriting Review

An underwriter carefully reviews your file to make sure everything meets our lending guidelines. Sometimes they may ask for a little extra information — we’ll guide you through it quickly.

Step 5:

Clear to Close

Once everything checks out and your loan is approved, a Closing Disclosure is prepared for your review. The Closing Disclosure must be delivered, and receipt documented, at least 3 days prior to your scheduled closing date.

You're almost there. We take pride in making the process as smooth and efficient as possible, so you can breathe easy knowing you're clear to close.

Step 6:

Closing Day

Time to sign the papers, celebrate, and get the keys to your new home. Welcome home.
